The 25-year
Vision

Ubba’s Grub Hub is built on a long-term commitment to food sovereignty, sustainability, and community empowerment. Our 25-year plan outlines a phased approach to building an Indigenous-led Food, Land & Energy Hub in Fort McKay that will serve as a model for environmental stewardship and economic resilience.

Each stage of this journey is intentionally designed to grow with the needs of the community. From launching aquaponics and renewable energy systems to creating educational programs, tourism opportunities, and local job pathways, Ubba’s Grub Hub is more than a food system—it’s a movement.

We envision a future where Northern communities have reliable access to fresh, nutritious food, locally grown and powered by Indigenous innovation.

Years 1–5:
Laying the Groundwork

We’re starting strong by rooting our vision where it matters most—on the land. This phase focuses on building the foundation: renovating our space into a hub that houses a nursery, conference center, café kitchen, and greenhouse powered by aquaponics. With composting programs and native plant revitalization, we’re not just growing food—we’re growing a movement.

Years 6–10: Growing Our Impact

With our roots in place, it’s time to branch out. We’ll expand our greenhouse operations, launch our café menu featuring fresh, local ingredients, and host community gatherings in our new space. From soil to soul, this phase is about deepening our commitment to sustainable food, art, and land-based healing.

Years 11–15: Welcoming the World

Fort McKay has a story to share. These years focus on tourism and education—offering tours, workshops, and authentic community experiences. We also begin the journey of coffee production while continuing our restoration work. Visitors won’t just see the beauty—we’ll help them feel it.

Years 16–20: Building a Destination

Big dreams take bold moves. We’ll break ground on hospitality infrastructure like a hotel and golf course while introducing on-site coffee cultivation. These additions will offer new jobs, boost local pride, and attract travelers seeking purpose-driven destinations rooted in Indigenous values.

Years 21–25: Thriving for Generations

In the final stretch, our vision becomes legacy. We’ll optimize every part of the hub—from greenhouse to guest experience—while maintaining our leadership in land stewardship. With restored habitats, thriving programs, and a vibrant community spirit, Ubba’s Grub Hub will stand as proof: we built this, together.
